Salary: $104,000 - 144,000 per year Requirements:

• 5+ years of database engineering or DBA experience, including 3+ years of hands-on Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration work.
• Strong command of Oracle, including PL/SQL, RMAN, Data Pump, and performance tuning, and PostgreSQL, including PL/pgSQL, extensions, vacuum internals, and replication.
• Practical experience with migration tools such as Ora2Pg, AWS SCT, AWS DMS, EDB Postgres Migration Toolkit, Google DMS, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of differences between Oracle and PostgreSQL, including sequences, ROWID and CTID, NVL and COALESCE, hierarchical queries, autonomous transactions, and packages.
• Experience with data validation and reconciliation frameworks.
• Scripting skills in Shell and Python for migration automation.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git for schema and code management.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision on complex legacy systems.
• Familiarity with cloud database services such as AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, Azure, or GCP Cloud SQL is a plus.

• Assess Oracle databases, including schemas, PL/SQL objects, indexes, partitioning, triggers, and jobs, to determine migration scope and approach.
• Convert schemas and database objects using migration tools or custom scripts.
• Migrate PL/SQL procedures, functions, triggers, and packages to PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL, addressing syntax and behavioral differences.
• Design and carry out data migration and validation strategies, including full loads, incremental or CDC migration, and reconciliation, to minimize data loss.
• Identify and resolve incompatibilities involving data types, sequences, materialized views, partitioning, error handling, and connection pooling.
• Tune PostgreSQL performance after migration, including indexing, queries, vacuum/autovacuum, PgBouncer connection pooling, and partitioning.
• Work with application teams to update SQL queries, ORM configurations, and connection strings or drivers such as JDBC, ODBC, and psycopg2.
• Plan and execute cutovers, including rollback plans, downtime reduction, and go-live support.
• Document migration runbooks, technical decisions, and lessons learned.

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer for an Oracle-to-PostgreSQL Migration Consultant role, supporting end-to-end enterprise database migrations. This is a full-time, onsite position in Sunnyvale, California, or Austin, Texas. Compensation is market-based and depends on experience.
